JFA Architects supported the successful planning approval of a strategic data centre development in County Westmeath through a comprehensive response to Further Information, with a strong emphasis on architectural quality and visual integration. Our approach focused on refining the building form and façade composition to reduce visual impact while establishing a coherent and contextually responsive design for this critical piece of infrastructure.
Key architectural enhancements included the articulation of building massing to break down the overall scale, alongside the introduction of high-quality façade treatments that soften the appearance of large volumes. Careful consideration was given to materiality, colour palette, and rhythm, ensuring the development responds sensitively to its rural setting while expressing a clear and contemporary identity.
The design works in tandem with the surrounding landscape strategy to create a unified and legible composition, where built form and environmental elements reinforce each other. This integrated approach enhances both long-distance views and the experience at site level, contributing to a development that feels grounded and appropriate to its context.
This project demonstrates how thoughtful architectural design can positively influence the perception of large-scale infrastructure—balancing operational requirements with visual quality and helping to embed essential development within its setting in a meaningful and enduring way.
